Jammu And Kashmir Light Infantry

The origin of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment lies entwined with the historic struggle for independence of India when men and women from all walks of life formed voluntary resistance groups in different parts of J&K to beat back raiders in 1947-48. These groups came under the umbrella of J&K MILITIA, a para military force on 15 Apr 48. To acknowledge its valour in wars, it was integrated with Indian Army in 1972 and renamed as JAK LI in 1976. It is the only Regiment which was formed voluntarily and recruits troops exclusively from J&K. The book covers the illustrious history of the Regiment as it continues to march forward on the melodious note of Kashmiriyat as an epitome of communal harmony, the very essence of India.
